Halloween is just around the corner, and it's the perfect time to get your creative juices flowing. If you have old candle vessels lying around, don't toss them out just yet. With a little creativity and a few supplies, you can turn them into adorable, spooky lanterns that'll add a touch of whimsy to your Halloween décor.

Materials You'll Need:

  • White Paint: I used DecoArt acrylic paint from Michaels, but any white paint will do.
  • Sponge Brush: For smooth and even paint application.
  • Paint Sharpie for Glass: To draw on the ghostly faces.
  • Purple Paint: I used DecoArt metallic acrylic paint from Michaels
  • Bling Spider Sticker: Michaels had a huge assortment of fun Halloween bling stickers to choose from.

Let's Get Started:

Step 1: Clean Your Vessels
Begin by thoroughly cleaning your old candle vessels with rubbing alcohol. This ensures that the paint adheres properly and creates a smooth finish.

Step 2: Paint Your Candle Vessels
Use a sponge brush to apply a layer of white paint to one vessel and purple to the other. Depending on the look you want to achieve, you may need two coats. I opted for a slightly transparent look, so one coat was enough for me on the white, however I used two coats for the purple. Allow it to dry thoroughly.

Step 3: Decorate your lanterns
Now comes the fun part – Decorating!! Take your white vessel and your sharpie and freehand a spooky expression. You can also use a stencil if you prefer precision. These little ghostly lanterns can have all sorts of expressions, from spooky grins to surprised "O"s! I opted for freehand and will definitely reconsider next time as my ghost looks more sad than scary! Now grab your purple vessel and adhere the spider sticker! Easy Peasy!

Step 4: Illuminate Your Ghostly Creation
For the finishing touch, simply place a tea light inside the vessels, and your spooky lanterns are ready to cast their eerie glow. Whether you're using them indoors for a spooky ambiance or lining your porch to welcome trick-or-treaters, these upcycled lanterns are sure to add a hauntingly charming touch to your Halloween decor.
