We live in a world that is extremely fast paced and stressful. We face multiple pressures everyday whether it is at your job, your commute, raising a family, keeping up at school or all of the above! Being pulled often in 10 different directions can make it difficult to prioritize mental health. That is why when I need a mental health boost I practice self care.

I think sometimes we all tend to shy away from anything that starts with "SELF." We may feel guilty taking time to ourselves when there are so many other things that need to get done and so many other people that need us.  But, if we can carve out chunks of time to rejuvenate and replenish, I think we'll find that we are more energized and capable of meeting all the responsibilities in our lives.

Self Care is something that I personally really struggle with but have been really trying to be more mindful of.  I have realized that giving myself just 5-10 minutes a day of "me time" really shifts my entire day and mood.  I am calmer, more patient and more productive! 

I have compiled a list of my favorite "fast" self-care ideas. Use this list to hopefully find your new favorite way to self care. If you are intentional and compassionate with yourself and your time these can all be very helpful in giving you that mental health boost you may so desperately need.

   1. LISTEN TO MUSIC

Let's face it.....music is part of being human!  Music has been proven to provide benefits such as decreased anxiety, increased self-awareness, and overall mindfulness. Research shows that music can actually increase the feeling of happiness.

2. COMPLIMENT YOURSELF

I know .... I know what you're thinking! UGH compliment myself?! It is often the hardest thing to do! However, everyday say one nice thing to yourself.  Anything at all-- maybe you completed a task that you have been putting off-- congratulate and compliment yourself for it! Perhaps you bought new makeup - compliment how it makes your skin look so youthful and full of life.  Compliment yourself for showing kindness when you want to yell and scream at someone! Literally find anything at all that is positive and give yourself that compliment! Still need a little push? Grab a candle from our affirmation line, each candle comes with an affirmation to say daily, a book of matches to "light it into existence" and some soothing music.

3. SNUGGLE A FURRY FRIEND

This is one of my all time favorites! I love animals and they truly make my day better.  Practice self care by snuggling a furry friend for a few minutes- the love they provide will 100% make your day better!

4. COFFEE RUN WITH YOUR BESTIE

One of the best self care tips-- drop everything , grab your bestie and a cup of coffee and enjoy both uninterrupted. No phones, no distractions-- coffee and conversation with a good friend is an amazing way to practice self care and really put your day on a positive path.

5. LIGHT A CANDLE

Come on....you didn't really think I'd leave this one out! Scented candles are proven to have positive effects on mood, stress reduction, sleep enhancement, self-confidence, and physical and cognitive performance. They can be used in so many different ways to practice your self care that clearly, using candles can be a great way to show yourself some love. 

 

 

I hope you will try to incorporate at least one of these to your daily routine. Remember baby steps can make a huge difference!
